“A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.” -Psalm 90:4
Time moves differently for God than for you and me. In Psalm 90:4, Moses prays to God and acknowledges that he can’t comprehend how God perceives time. What you think is the longest time in the world may be a second to God.
God will follow through in his timing, but we often try to control the timing of events in our lives. Just because the callings God has placed on your heart aren’t realized today, doesn’t mean they won’t happen. Being great at a sport takes years of hard work and dedication. You know that you won’t suddenly be a conference champion after one good weight session or practice. You won’t master a class after sitting in on 3 lectures. Just like it takes time for you to develop in your sport or classes, God is developing you for the time of his promises. He is preparing you for the right moment. Be patient and lean into God.
Abraham and Sarah didn’t have their first child until Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah 90. The promise from God made them parents of many nations. Jesus delayed going to Lazarus when he was sick. Eventually, the result was Jesus raising him from the dead. The prophecy Jesus read in Luke 4 to begin his ministry was written by Isaiah around 700 years beforehand and Jesus still fulfilled what was said.
Every sentence is a combination of words, spaces, and punctuation. For words to flow together, there must be spaces at the right time and distance. Every week, year, or decade can be a sentence in God’s eyes. If you are growing impatient with God, know you are in a space between words in God’s story for your life. Spaces can last days or years depending on how God is writing your story.
If you aren’t seeing the breakthroughs, the highs, or the moments where you see God’s hand on your life, you are probably just in a space between words. Everything God has in store for your life won’t happen in a day, month, or even a year. Be patient and lean into God.
Sometimes God waits to show you what you are waiting for until you are ready to trust His timing. He waits for you to be patient so you will truly appreciate what he is providing.
Where is God asking you to be patient?
What can you release to God?
If there is 1 thing I can encourage you with… it’s God is working even if you can’t see it.
I appreciate you.
