Who do you want to be in 5 years? 10 years? We each have goals for ourselves: ways we want to live, attitude adjustments, and knowledge achievements. You know who you want to be in the future, but how often do you live into that vision? You aren’t going to wake up one morning and magically have everything you desire. You won’t wake up and magically be the person you have always wanted to be.
If you want to be an entrepreneur, start doing research. Develop your ideas and practice business models. Work today for that future business.
If you want to be a good public speaker, start practicing. Create one paragraph of material and run through it in your mirror. It takes constant practice to become an expert.
If you want to be a musician, write a verse. It doesn’t have to be good, just get something down on paper.
Since I want to write a book someday, I started Monday Motivation. As I look back on my posts from a year and half ago, I’m amazed at my difference in writing style. I started this weekly message to help me develop ideas, but also to practice writing on a consistent basis. My writing has changed and developed since the time I started, but I didn’t see that after a couple weeks. It took months and months to see progression. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see instant results. Consistency is key to becoming the person you want to be.
As much as I’d like to say I have this figured out, I struggle like anyone else. I’m taking a very light semester before I graduate in May. I have massive dreams and goals, but I don’t act every day to make those a reality. Right now, I take too many naps and have a strong relationship with 2K.
Here’s some free relationship advice. You have an idea of the person you want to be with. You have thought about the qualities you are looking for in a significant other. Have you thought about the qualities that special person is looking for? Do they want someone who is confident, self-assured, or trustworthy? You may not be in a relationship now, but you can prepare yourself to be the person your future wife/husband needs. Start being the person that person deserves.
Men, you know that your wife will want someone who is trustworthy, confident, caring, and many other characteristics. Are you the person she will deserve and desire? If not, start becoming that person. Women, your future husband may want someone who is generous, caring, and communicates well when she is upset. I can’t tell you what those characteristics are like for you because everyone is different. Are you the person he will deserve and desire? If not, start becoming that person.
Maybe you haven’t found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with because right now you are not the person they are looking for.
That doesn’t mean you won’t get there. Take steps today. Act with that future self in mind.
The ideal version of yourself isn’t waiting for things to happen. He is taking tangible steps every day to become the person he needs himself to be. She is taking tangible steps every day to become the person others needs her to be.
Who do you want to be in 5 or 10 years? Act with that person in mind. Look forward.
I appreciate you.
